New publication - Geleefd Geloof [Lived Faith]
Recently Walburg Pers published a book on medieval Frisia, a region in the Low Countries comprising the current provinces of Groningen and Friesland. For this book, Jos Koldeweij wrote about pilgrims’ badges and ampullae.
Ordinary people in the Middle Ages hardly left any written documents. Threfore, we do not know what they thought of religious doctrine, but there are other ways to learn how these people expressed their faith at home and in public. The book Geleefd Geloof uses objects, such as small statues of saints, books, and badges, to describe and depict the religious culture of ordinary people in the Middle Ages. End point is the Reformation that came into effect in Frisia around 1580.
